What is the role of the business owner?

As I speak with business owners, one of the most common misconceptions is that the owner is supposed to be some sort of super-employee. Someone who works harder, longer and is more devoted than any other employee. This results in owners who are worn out, unhappy and probably the least paid person in the business.

At ActionCOACH, we know the business exists for the benefit of the owner – it should provide them with good returns, a sense of value and the ability to enjoy life. Brad Sugars, founder of ActionCOACH, says you don’t have a business until you can call in on the spur of the moment and announce that you will be out of touch for three months and have the business go on as if nothing was changed – a Business That Works Without You.

This can be a reality but requires business owners to change their view of themselves – from laborer to dreamer, from super-employee to strategist, designer, leader. Let’s continue to explore this concept in my next post.

Let’s meet to discuss your role in your business!
